At VyStar, safeguarding our members’ financial well-being is a top priority. Recently, Rosilind, Branch Vice President at our Roosevelt branch, shared a story that highlights how working together with our members and can help prevent fraud.
A member visited the Roosevelt branch after receiving an email that appeared to be from PayPal, claiming a purchase had been made on their account. The message included an invoice and a toll-free number to call for help. Concerned that her VyStar account might be compromised, the member trusted her instincts and came to us for help. The VyStar team quickly verified that the email was fraudulent and reassured the member that no funds had been moved from her account.
Fraud protection is a partnership. When members take proactive steps and reach out, we can work together to keep accounts safe.
“We rely on our members to become partners with us, using the tools we provide and alerting us when something doesn’t seem right,” Rosalind said. “When in doubt, just reach out.”
Common Red Flags to Watch For:
Emails or texts from unknown senders requesting immediate action
Requests for personal details like Social Security numbers or account credentials
Instructions to withdraw large sums of money or lie about the reason for the withdrawal
Scammers often use scare tactics, claiming to be from law enforcement, a government agency or even a financial services provider. They may pressure members to act quickly or keep secrets. Remember, VyStar will never ask for your passwords, one-time codes or visit your home to collect money.
