Wreaths Across America (WAA) in Jacksonville is proud to announce a local stop for the WAA Mobile Education Exhibit (MEE) national tour. The MEE started its tour at the WAA Headquarters in Maine and will be in Jacksonville on Wednesday, April 3 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The Mobile Education Exhibit sponsored by VyStar Credit Union is free and open to the public. The unit will be at 37 South Hogan Street adjacent to the VyStar Hogan Street Parking Garage.
“The goal of the Wreaths Across America Mobile Education Exhibit is to bring communities together and provide an opportunity to educate about the organization’s mission," said Wreaths Across America Executive Director Karen Worcester. "The exhibit serves as a mobile museum, educating visitors about the service and sacrifice of our nation’s heroes and serving as an official ‘welcome home' station for our nation’s Vietnam veterans."
The MEE achieves this goal by bringing the local community, veterans, active-duty military and their families together through interactive exhibits, short films, and shared stories. The exhibit serves as a mobile museum, educating visitors about the service and sacrifice of our nation’s heroes, as well as serving as an official ‘welcome home’ station for our nation’s Vietnam veterans. Members of the media, dignitaries, veterans, and other interested groups are encouraged to visit, share stories, and experience this one-of-a-kind exhibit.
“It is an honor for VyStar to support Wreaths Across America’s mission to remember the fallen and honor our nation’s veterans,” said VyStar NAS Jacksonville Branch Vice President/Military Liaison Sean Dougherty. “VyStar was founded onboard NAS Jacksonville more than 70 years ago as a place to help military and civil service members meet their financial needs, and that commitment to the military is just as strong today.”
Wreaths Across America is the non-profit organization best known for placing wreaths on veteran’s headstones at Arlington National Cemetery. However, in 2023, the organization expanded its mission and placed millions of sponsored veterans’ wreaths at over 4,100 participating locations nationwide.
Throughout the year, you can tune in to Wreaths Across America Radio, to learn more about the mission and those who support it across the country, as well as the hundreds of local charitable efforts like the Remembrance Tree Program, TEACH Program and veteran outreach efforts nationwide funded through wreath sponsorships.
You can sponsor a veteran’s wreath anytime for $17 on the Wreaths Across America website. Each sponsorship goes toward a live balsam wreath that will be placed on the headstone of an American hero as they endeavor to honor all laid to rest veterans at noon on Saturday, December 14, 2024, as part of National Wreaths Across America Day.
