Jacksonville, Florida — VyStar Credit Union celebrated the 70th anniversary of its founding at Naval Air Station Jacksonville with a ceremony on Friday that featured VyStar President/CEO Brian Wolfburg and Commanding Officer Capt. Jeffrey Hill.

“Our credit union has enjoyed tremendous growth over the last 70 years, and that is because of the employees, members and community partners who have supported us along the way,” said VyStar President/CEO Brian Wolfburg. “As we’ve grown, what has not changed is our commitment to the brave men and women who serve our country. We are proud to be able to celebrate our 70th anniversary with them and look forward to continuing to support our members and the places we call home.”

VyStar was founded on April 29, 1952, when 12 founding members had one bold idea: to create a safe place for military and civil service members to save and borrow money. Stationed at Naval Air Station Jacksonville, they called the credit union Jax Navy Federal Credit Union. The credit union was renamed in 2002 as it transitioned to a state-chartered credit union, but VyStar remains deeply committed to serving past and present military members and their families through numerous initiatives each year.

VyStar has grown to become a full-service financial institution that offers savings and checking accounts, loans, credit cards, mortgages, auto and home insurance, financial planning and investments, and much more. Earlier this year, VyStar introduced its Everyday Heroes Mortgage Program, which provides special offerings to people in over 100 civil service positions. That program followed the successful debut of the Military Heroes Mortgage
Program late last year, which honors those who protect, serve and care for our country. VyStar is also leading a digital transformation that includes a new website and Online & Mobile Banking platform.

With more than 800,000 members and over $12 billion in assets, VyStar is now the 13th-largest credit union in the country. As the credit union grows, so does its ability to improve the communities it serves. In 2021, VyStar donated over $6.8 million to over 300 community nonprofits, more than ever before. That includes over $800,000 given to military-themed initiatives. However, VyStar believes that financial support is only one form of giving. Therefore, VyStar employees also donate thousands of hours of volunteerism each year.
