Following the impact of Hurricane Ian, VyStar Credit Union has contributed to several initiatives that support residents and communities in need. These efforts include employee volunteerism, deploying our mobile branch and making a donation to the Florida Disaster Fund.
Volunteer Support
Our purpose is to Do Good, and our employees help us live out those words every day.
On Oct. 14, more than a dozen VyStar employees spanning from Jacksonville to Orlando participated in a volunteer event with the United Way of Volusia-Flagler Counties in Daytona Beach. Volunteers came together to clean up debris around homes of those who were heavily impacted by the storm.
Additionally, VyStar is partnering with the Clay County Fair Association to host a donation drive at the following branches from Oct. 19 through Oct. 28: Branan Field, Eagle Harbor, Green Cove Springs, Middleburg and Orange Park. To help families in need, members and local residents are encouraged to drop off items such as socks, T-shirts and tank tops. These items will support families from communities such as Pine Island, Matlacha, Harlem Heights and Arcadia.
Mobile Branch
To further support the Southwest Florida community, VyStar partnered with Tampa Postal Federal Credit Union, which has branch locations along the west coast of Florida, to restore banking access to members in Fort Myers. Tampa Postal FCU, which serves United States Postal Service employees and their families and Select Employee Groups (SEGs) from across 37 Florida counties, closed its Fort Myers branch indefinitely because of the storm.
VyStar deployed its mobile branch on Oct. 16 to ensure members had access to cash and could complete other necessary financial transactions while the branch is out of service. The mobile branch is located at 4125 Cleveland Avenue, Fort Myers, FL 33901 and is open Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Donation to Florida Disaster Fund
In addition to employee-led initiatives, VyStar contributed $25,000 to the Florida Disaster Fund, the State of Florida’s official private fund established to assist communities as they respond to and recover during times of emergency or disaster.
VyStar is proud to support the credit union movement’s motto of “People Helping People,” especially during times of need. The credit union is dedicated to supporting others as we help the residents recover from Hurricane Ian.
