From Our Chief Human Resources Officer: Giving Back to Communities is About More Than Financial Donations

For years, VyStar has donated millions of dollars to nonprofit organizations across the communities we call home. There’s a sense of pride behind those donations. It is meaningful to know that money is going toward life-changing causes for youth, military members and initiatives that make our communities stronger. While that charitable spirit is alive and well within all of us at VyStar, giving back to the community is about more than dollars and cents.

Our credit union recently added another layer in our effort to reflect our purpose to Do Good. We challenged each of our full-time employees to volunteer at least eight hours this year — and every year going forward. Not only does this work support nonprofit organizations, but we also proudly amplify our employees’ impact by offering employees paid time off to volunteer in the community — up to six hours for part time and eight hours for full time — through our Pay It Forward program. To strengthen the impact of our employees' volunteerism, VyStar also makes a $100 donation once per year to their eligible nonprofit organization of choice. The response has been truly inspiring!

Employees are coming back from volunteering with a renewed sense of purpose. They’re telling their colleagues about all the good they’re doing together and challenging one another to join in. We’re also hearing from you, our valued members, who’ve noticed their hard work and presence in the community. You’ve been sending in photos with VyStar employees from local events. We always enjoy seeing these and look forward to finding more opportunities to connect with you. Keep the pictures coming! We’re excited to continuously support our members and communities through charitable efforts.

VyStar employees passed the 10,000-hour mark in June and the hours keep growing. We’re excited to build on that number with some exciting projects still to come this year. Whether that means cleaning up debris after a storm or reading to children, every hour spent volunteering is meaningful. We encourage you to find a way to volunteer in your community if you can!

As always, we’re here for your financial needs — but please know we’re here to provide so much more. Our volunteer work is just one more way we show our ongoing commitment to our members and the places we call home as we work to build better, stronger communities for everyone.
