The USS Orleck is a World War II-designed ship that once saw action during the Korean War, Vietnam War and Operation Desert Storm. Today, its reputation stands as the most decorated Gearing Class Destroyer, and it will be honored as the centerpiece of the Jacksonville Naval Museum. Since March, the ship has resided along the Northbank Riverwalk near the Hyatt Regency Jacksonville Riverfront hotel.
The official opening of the USS Orleck to the public is on Sept. 28. However, VyStar Credit Union members have an exclusive perk of touring the ship early on Sunday, Sept. 25, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.by showing their VyStar credit or debit card. Guests who visit the USS Orleck will step back in time on this piece of living history to tour the ship’s bridge, combat information center, division commander’s stateroom, galley, wardroom, mess decks and one of the main guns of the ship.
