VyStar is proud to be a 16-year captain sponsor of the Isle of Eight Flags Shrimp Festival in their 55th year of taking over Amelia Island on Friday, May 4th, through Sunday, May 6th.
Why is it called The Isle of Eight Flags??? Fernandina Beach has changed possession and been under eight different flags—the only United States location to have done so. French, Spanish, English, Patriot, Green Cross or Florida, Mexican Rebel, Confederate and the United States, oh my! It makes perfect sense to have a SHRIMP festival here, seeing as this is where the modern shrimping industry was founded in the early 20th century.
I don’t know about you, but whenever I hear someone mention shrimp, I am reminded of the movie “Forrest Gump.” As Bubba said, “Shrimp is the fruit of the sea. You can barbecue it, broil it, bake it, sauté it. There’s uh, shrimp kabobs, shrimp creole, shrimp gumbo. Pan-fried, deep-fried, stir-fried. There’s pineapple shrimp, lemon shrimp, coconut shrimp, pepper shrimp, shrimp soup, shrimp stew, shrimp salad, shrimp and potatoes, shrimp burger, shrimp sandwich.” The festival’s food vendors deliver all that and more! Plus, you can nosh guilt-free knowing it’s for a good cause: All food booths are run by local nonprofits.
Can you believe there is more to this festival than just shrimp? Bring the entire family and enjoy arts and crafts, antiques, regional and local music, locally caught shrimp, seafood dishes, a parade, fireworks, pirates and family fun!
We hope you stop by our VyStar booth to say hello!
