Let’s face it: Life gets busy. Between work life, home life and attempts at a social life, we all overlook important things from time to time.
Sometimes it’s as simple as forgetting to put a birthday card in the mail. Other times, it’s worse … like when we write a rent check and forget about it — until we find ourselves at the grocery store a few days later, delaying the checkout line and being told by an uneasy cashier that our transaction has been declined due to insufficient funds.
Who hasn’t been in a situation like that? They’re embarrassing, and on top of that, they can put a dent in your bank account in the form of fees being charged by the merchant in addition to non-sufficient funds fees. Fortunately, there’s good news: Signing up for Courtesy Pay will allow the transaction to clear for a fee up to $29 and help you avoid a potentially awkward situation altogether.
Courtesy Pay is a service that provides you with peace of mind and your accounts with added security for those “oops” moments. Here are 4 things to know about Courtesy Pay:
Courtesy Pay kicks in only if Overdraft Protection falls through. Overdraft Protection automatically transfers funds from a linked account if there’s less in it than needed to complete a transaction. For example, if you use your debit card to buy a pint of ice cream and there’s not enough money in your checking account, Overdraft Protection will move funds from your savings or other linked account to cover it. If your checking account and linked account are both empty — that’s when Courtesy Pay comes in.
Courtesy Pay can potentially provide backup for insufficient funds on:
Without Courtesy Pay, if a transaction is processed and there isn’t enough money in your checking or Overdraft Protection account to cover it, you will likely receive a non-sufficient funds (NSF) fee and a third-party return charge. In some cases, the merchant might try to process your transaction multiple times, resulting in more fees. Courtesy Pay is designed to save you from multiple charges by approving the transaction up to a specified amount and charging a fee up to $29.
