When you walk into a VyStar Credit Union location, it is hard to miss the bright, colorful artwork that is displayed throughout the branch. What you may not realize, however, is that each piece of art tells an important story: the story of VyStar. It is a visual account of not only how our credit union came to be, but also how we continue to serve our members in the best possible way.
As VyStar’s Chief Marketing & Planning Officer, I talk to our employees about these paintings on a regular basis because it reminds them of the high-quality products and services we offer to our members each day. And because we know how important it is for you to be confident in the financial institution where you conduct your financial business, it is equally important to us that our members understand the meaning behind our artwork as well, because it helps give you a better understanding of who we are as an organization.
We are very proud of our one-of-a-kind artwork, and I would like to share with you the story behind several of our signature pieces, which will undoubtedly make you see our branches from a new perspective.
This small family, which is wrapped in money, shows our members just how important families are to VyStar. We want to make sure families who are just starting out get the financial help they need to flourish and accomplish their goals. VyStar strives to meet that need by promoting financial education through services like our free Money Makeover program, which has helped hundreds of members and families understand how to manage their money throughout their lifetime.
The American flag in the background shows we are a very patriotic organization. VyStar Credit Union was originally founded in 1952 as Jax Navy Federal Credit Union to serve civil service and military employees, as well as their families, at Naval Air Station Jacksonville (NAS Jax). Our strong military roots and our patriotism continue to be a part of our credit union’s DNA to this day.
Known as “The Seekers,” this piece of art represents VyStar’s all-volunteer Board of Directors. The man in the middle is named William, or Bill for short, and he represents the dollar bill. Our Board is very active in the operations of VyStar. They are always looking out into the market, into the community and into the future to make sure our credit union has the best products and services for our members at the best rates. No matter what financial services our members ask for—whether it is free checking, ATM services, debit cards, Internet Banking or Investment Services—the Board of Directors finds the way to make those things a part of our organization. They want to assure their fellow members that VyStar always offers the best value, both now and in the future.
Penelope will always be found behind, or very close to, the teller line in every VyStar branch. We call her Penny for short because, at VyStar, a penny saved is a penny earned. She is there to remind our employees that time is money, and time is also very important to our members—that is why she is depicted flying next to a clock. At VyStar branches, we aim to serve our members in the most expeditious manner possible. We want to make sure each transaction is completed quickly, accurately and efficiently so our members can continue on with their day and get back to what is most important to them.
The money tree represents all the lending products we offer at VyStar. We like to think money grows on trees and, depending on credit approval, members can come to pick a money leaf off the tree to get the things they want. In the tree, you will see a house, a car and other items, which show that we have loan services for everyone’s needs. VyStar’s VIP Pre-Approved Auto Loan Program has been designed to make borrowing easy.
Standing tall, these three mountains signify the three types of credit cards VyStar offers to qualified members. The mountain in the middle—which is decorated with a palm tree, an airplane and a cruise ship—represents our VISA® Signature Rewards Plus card. This card allows you to build points you can use toward vacations and other exciting items. For those who prefer a simpler credit card experience, the mountain on the left exemplifies our VISA Signature Cash Back card; the one on the right, our Platinum VISA no-frills card. Together, the three mountains symbolize the value of using your credit cards responsibly. When credit cards are used the right way, they can help put you on top, financially speaking—much like the figures on the tops of these mountains.
Finally, this painting, which shows several people standing arm-in-arm and supporting one another, is a symbol of our credit union and the credit union movement. Credit unions are financial cooperatives that bring people together to help each other with financial needs. The credit union returns its profits to the members in the form of lower fees and better interest rates. The members of the credit union are its owners; so in essence, the credit union exists as “people helping people.” It takes all our members and employees working together, helping each other, to make VyStar a successful organization.
These are just a few sample pieces of the many paintings you can view in our branches. If you would like to learn more about our branch art, we invite you to speak to a representative at your nearest VyStar location or visit our VyStar Branch Artwork page for more information about our other pieces. And whenever you see VyStar’s artwork, always remember: We never forget that it’s your money.
It is because of you, our members, that our credit union is the success that it is today. Thank you for your membership and for inspiring us to serve you with the very best.
